Science of Diving


In SSIís Science of Diving course, you will learn how physics and physiology are intertwined with everyday diving activities and gain a greater understanding of each.  Science of Diving is an excellent supplement to any of SSIís specialty programs, especially the Nitrox and Navigation Diver programs; and is an excellent foundation for the Advanced Nitrox or other Technical Extended Range courses.


Upon the completion of the course you will receive a Science of Diving Certification Card.


Course topics include:

  •   Diving physics

  •   Diving physiology

  •   Decompression theory

  •   Diving systems and accessories

  •   The Aquatic environment


Science of Diving is a prerequisite for the Divemaster and Dive Control Specialist programs.

 Prerequisites:  Open Water Diver Certification


The SDSFW Science of Diving course includes 8 hours of instruction, all student materials, a Science of Diving C-Card, and is conducted in two Ė four hour sessions.






We will furnish any equipment, beyond basic gear, you do not have that is needed for the class.
